"Today, I'm calling for all of us to come together- private sector industry, universities, and the government- to spark a renaissance in American manufacturing and help our manufacturers develop the cutting-edge tools they need to compete with anyone in the world... With these key investments, we can ensure that the United States remains a nation that 'invents it here and manufactures it here' and creates high-quality, good paying jobs for American workers."
President Obama, speaking at Carnegie-Mellon University on June 24, 2011.
About Advanced Manufacturing Partnership
The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) responds to the President's call for a national effort to support the creation of good jobs by helping U.S. manufacturers reduce costs, improve quality, and accelerate product development.
This private-sector-led effort and related activities stem from recommendations of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in its report Ensuring American Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing.
AMP is guided by a Steering Committee, which operates within the framework of PCAST and comprises leading experts from industry and academia. It is co-chaired by Andrew Liveris, President, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the Dow Chemical Company, and Susan Hockfield, President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The presidents of some of the nation's top engineering universities and the CEOs of some of its leading manufacturers make up the AMP Steering Committee membership.
Since the summer of 2011, AMP has engaged a diverse group of stakeholders—businesses, educational institutions, labor organizations, government agencies, and professional associations— at regional events designed to solicit their ideas on how best to promote U.S. leadership in manufacturing and innovation performance.
